Week 5: Three Tight Ends, Two Early Exits

By Michael ChenPublished

Week 4 was a 195.18-point win. In Week 5, I kept most of the same starters and lost 133.34–170.60, dropping to 3–2.

The main lineup changes were Goedert replacing Odunze in flex and Cleveland replacing Buffalo at defense. I also made a couple of moves outside the starting lineup, but this wasn't another week of big trades.

Why I made those changes

I was unsure about Odunze because of the quarterback situation in Chicago. With DeVonta Smith and Saquon Barkley out, Goedert looked like a good option. I saw him as Hurts' main target that week.

I kept Hockenson in the other flex because he seemed to be building trust and chemistry with Kyler Murray. He had just scored 24.9 for me in Week 4. That left me starting three tight ends: Bowers at TE, with Hockenson and Goedert in flex.

Pollard stayed in over Woody Marks because I trusted his workload to be more consistent. I saw him as the full-time option. At receiver, I just preferred KC Concepcion to an older Keenan Allen.

I briefly replaced Kendre Miller with Dohnte Meyers as insurance in case Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins didn't play. I dropped Meyers for Seth McGowan before Sunday, and both Chase and Higgins ended up playing.

For defense, I liked Cleveland's matchup with the Jets, so I streamed the Browns in place of Buffalo.

My Week 5 lineup

  • QB: Jared Goff, 34.94
  • RB: Chase Brown, 7; Tony Pollard, 5.2
  • WR: Zay Flowers, 14.6; Carnell Tate, 1.6; KC Concepcion, 1.5
  • TE: Brock Bowers, 23
  • Flex: T.J. Hockenson, 1.7; Dallas Goedert, 9.8
  • K: Spencer Shrader, 21
  • Defense: Cleveland, 13

Outside the starting lineup were Odunze, Adonai Mitchell, Marks, Mike Washington, McGowan, Allen and Breece Hall.

How it went

Hockenson and Concepcion both went out with concussions in the first quarter. Hockenson's came on Minnesota's second offensive play. I got unlucky with two starters being done that early, and they finished with just 1.7 and 1.5 points.

They weren't the only low scores. Brown had 7, Pollard had 5.2 and Tate had 1.6. Goff, Bowers, Shrader and Cleveland did most of the scoring, combining for 91.94 of my 133.34 points.

Marks scored 12.5 outside my lineup, while Allen had 9.5. Those points stayed out of my total. Goedert did outscore Odunze, 9.8 to 5, but that change wasn't enough to make up the gap.

I finished 37.26 points behind my opponent. Most of the starters were the same as in Week 4, but the production wasn't, and the two early concussions made it a rough week.
